Jean & Murray Thomas Memorial Scholarship Award for
Student Citizenship

The Virden Area Foundation’s Jean & Murray Thomas Memorial Scholarship Award for Student Citizenship recognizes graduating students for outstanding contributions they have made to their school and community.

This scholarship award recognizes graduating Virden Collegiate Institute (VCI) students who demonstrate the qualities of active participation in civic or community activities, good scholarship and school involvement. The following specific criteria apply:

  1. Volunteer service to the community.
  2. Involvement in citizenship or character building organizations.
  3. Good scholastic record.
  4. Participation in student programs or activities.
  5. Leadership ability to motivate others to actions to benefit the community.

The Foundation will provide up to 2 awards of $1,000 each.

Awards are available for use in any of the next three ensuing academic years. Awards not claimed within that timeframe will be forfeited.

The scholarship awards will be paid directly to the university or college of the recipient’s choice upon enrollment. The university or college must be a qualified donee for the purposes of the Income Tax Act. The institution will then credit the recipient’s tuition account.

The deadline for receipt of completed application submissions is June 1, of the current year. All submissions received will be acknowledged with a letter.
